What Gray Spots on a Child’s Teeth mean

Usually, you don’t have to worry about your child’s teeth being stained, since they’re too young to have coffee or any sorts of super-staining items. But you might notice that you have some teeth discoloration. Why is that? Well, here is what you need to know, and what it means for yourself, and for your dentist in Chandler Arizona.

The first situation, is that there might be too much iron in the body. If you have a lot of iron-rich food or supplements, it actually causes gray and black stains to appear on the teeth. The staining isn’t harmful, and typically if you brush your teeth right away, or when you see the dentist, this can get rectified.

Trauma is another issue that might be a part of this. If it’s dark and gray entirely, it’s from an injury. When tooth trauma happens, usually from various falls or impacts, there might be bleeding within which then causes it to stain. It can’t be removed by brushing, and if you notice something off, talk to your dentist about it.

Now, fluorosis is another condition where you have too much fluoride in the body. It’s a cosmetic concern only though, and you will want to confirm with your dentist what you’re seeing. You should make sure that you’re not overdoing it on the fluoride, and if you’re giving your child fluoride supplements, that you’re getting the right dosage for them. Too much causes this, but if you limit the levels, it’ll be much better for you as a result.

This can also be as a result from brushing that isn’t done enough. This is probably the most common issue, and in truth, you’re not alone on this. It’s actually something that can be a struggle within the entire family, and if you’re not doing it, it can actually really much up your teeth. While it’s great to be independent with your dental hygiene, often little kids are bad with getting every single tooth in an adequate fashion, and for long enough. The latter is typically the bigger problem. You should make sure that you monitor their brushing to make sure that they’re brushing the teeth correctly, and long enough. There are a few different ways to help make sure that you’re brushing your teeth enough, and often, having a timer tell you when the two minutes is up definitely helps.

Now, if you see some white spots that are chalky on the teeth, this is a result of tooth decay, and it shows that it’s begun. If you don’t treat these, they turn yellow or brown, so you should definitely go in to get the help that you need. You should never avoid signs of tooth decay, since you definitely want to stop this before it gets worse.

Now, you should see your dentist whenever you can’t easily brush a stain away. Often, a simple exercise in brushing, or monitoring how much fluoride and iron your child is getting, is the simple solution. You should also make sure they’re not drinking or eating too many stain-causing foods such as berries and the like. You should however, make sure that if the stain can’t be brushed away, that you go in. They might want to take a look directly, and they will tell you when you can come in for this. You should definitely take their word for it, since they definitely can help prevent it from getting worse.

Often, people think that this is just temporary, since it is on baby teeth. But baby teeth fall out and adult teeth grow in. If you ignore dental problems, it’ll become much worse for you later on. What you need to do, is to make sure that you’re going to the dentist in Chandler Arizona that you see, since you’ll be able to get the right dental care that you need. If you keep up your regular dental visits, you will push in good hygiene habits, habits that they will keep for the rest of their lives, and habits that they will be able to use and maintain when they reach adulthood and from there on.

  1. I am so happy I came across this post. I just booked an appointment with dentist Hermosa Beach for my kid. He also has discoloration of teeth and I really want to know what it could be. This is such an informative post. At least, I will not sit like a dumb at his clinic now.
